This week, the Punchcard podcast talks with Abbas Shapuri about how and why he left corporate accounting at firms like KPMG to get involved in worker cooperatives.
Then, we've got chapter 12 of Cooperative Enterprise and Market Economy, wherein author Luis Razeto Migliaro considers some of the "extra-economic" virtues of worker and community cooperatives.

Abbas Shapuri’s journey into the worker co-operative movement is not a typical one. Many worker co-operators arrive from the “alternative” or activist scenes. Abbas, however, came from the heart of capitalism: corporate accountancy.Â

Placing labor at the root and center of economic organizations logically leads – as we have seen – to a regime of distributed personal property, which implies use in common of the necessary means of production, which the collective of workers know and feel to be their own. Following the reasoning of Laborem Exercens, and in light of various ethical-social considerations, we can appreciate why an ownership structure founded on labor and indissolubly linked to labor, should show itself to be profoundly human and socially just.
Cooperativism at Work (YouTube) — This video by Global Communities presents Kigro Recyclers, a new youth-led waste management cooperative in Nairobi, whose success demonstrates the worker cooperative model’s potential in Kenya and Africa for job creation, poverty reduction and environmental improvement. BC Artisans at Work (YouTube) — The Kootenay Bakery Café Cooperative is not your average bakery. As the name suggests, the bakery operates as a worker co-op. This means the principles of cooperation, mutual aid, solidarity and equity between members, employees, and the community are inherent to our values...

Kim said the group has hosted about 10 meetings and several events with a focus on working together to solve problems and learn from each other...
Dorian's Mode — My guiding goal is to engage with care—responsively, intentionally, and through practices that support healing rather than impose it. Over time, I developed a framework to help navigate these complex spaces with integrity, transparency, and genuine respect. I now share this framework with other liberation-oriented, trauma-informed practitioners—mental health workers, artists, activists, organizers, facilitators, and all who engage in work that centers on healing and liberation..
