This week, we have a wide-ranging interview with Bernard Marszalek, a former member of the Inkworks Press worker cooperative. He talks about his 18 years in the co-op, and discusses his new book, Jobs, Jive, & Joy: An Argument for the Utopian Spirit, which was partly inspired by his mother's experience working in the Western Electric Hawthorne Works outside Chicago. While the company itself was anything but cooperative, the massive plant served as fertile soil for the emergence of a worker-led, worker-centered culture that extended well beyond the shop floor.

Then, Leslie Watson of the NorthEast Investment Cooperative talks about their organization sprang from organic conversations among neighbors in her Minneapolis neighborhood, and how their 75 members have self-funded the purchase and rehabilitation of two buildings, one of which houses the Fair State Brewing Cooperative.
